Dear Ladies, summer is coming, light clothes are getting out of our closets. Do you know how to match your belt according to your body shape, shall you put it on the hips or waist, pick a thin or large one, shall you belt every clothes you wear? Find out with me!

Determine your figure type

Reminder: when choosing clothes, we will try to recreate the hourglass shape for each lady. Let’s now talk specifically about the belt.

On hips or on the waist?

Careful my ladies! A wrong choice may make you look bigger than what you are!

If you are an Apple…

Remember: your hips, belly and shoulders are large, and you tend to gain weight at the hips.

To avoid: belt at the hips! You would look even bigger.

To do: belt at the waist! You need to recreate your waistline to look slimmer.

If you are a Pear…

Remember: your hips are larger than your waist and your shoulders.

To avoid: you shall not let your hips be even larger by putting a belt on them.

To do: belt at the waist! It would give the impression of more volume at the chest and shoulders, recreating the X shape.

If you are an Inverted Triangle…

Remember: your shoulders are larger than your waist and hips.

To do: You need to gain more volume on the hips to balance your shoulders size! Belt there for sure.

If you are a Rectangle…

Remember: your hips, waist, and shoulders are the same width.

To do: belt at the waist! Try to tighten it a bit, it will make it narrower, and thus recreate the lady’s curves on your body. Both your shoulders and hips will look larger than your waist.

If you are an Hourglass…

Remember: your hips and shoulders are equals, but your waist is well defined.

To do: waist or hips, you have the choice! Both would look good. The waist one will accentuate the X impression, the hips one would also make your waist narrower, by contrast.

A thick or a thin belt?

We have slim, thin belts, and on the other hand, the maxi-size belt adding volume. How to choose it according to your body type? Here again, we will target to recreate the hourglass shape.

If you are an Apple…

Remember: you place the belt at the waist.

To do: the thick belt would add far too much volume on you. Rather go for the thin one, which would add a delicate image.

Option: if you are a “small apple”, of short size, the large belt may then be a fit. Tighten it well!

If you are a Pear…

Remember: you place the belt at the waist.

To do: you need volume on the upper part of your body to balance your large hips. A large belt would be helpful here. Moreover, it would attract visual attention away from your hips.

If you are an Inverted Triangle…

Remember: you place the belt at the waist.

To do: you need volume on the lower part of your body to balance your large shoulders. A large belt would be helpful here. Moreover, it would attract the visual attention away from your shoulders. Yes, you get it: it’s the opposite mechanics as the Pear shape.

If you are a Rectangle…

Remember: you place the belt at the waist.

To do: we need to narrow your waist, make it tighten. The large belt wouldn’t be helpful to reduce the volume. We go for the thin one, which will enhance the narrow aspect of your waist.

If you are an Hourglass…

To do: It’s still the case here. You may have the either a thin or thick belt on the waist or the hips. It will depend on you arrange the whole attire. You are free to do how it pleases you!

Belt or not?

Tops

You should not belt over a top. T-shirts, shirts, sweaters, polo, tunics, cardigans are not meant for that. If you do it, it would give you a “captured” impression, not to say awkward.

Fashion photos may make look it great, but the reality will most probably be different.

Dresses

Dresses go well with belt, wear it according to the advice we gave previously. Beware of the pleats when you pass the belt, don’t make too many pleats

Coats

Use the coat’s belt if it has its own one. But avoid placing one from your closet, it will easily look unnatural.

Skirts

Both high and low-waist skirts are a great match with belts. The high one emphasizes the waist even more. The low one would welcome a belt only if the top is skin-tight or tucked. If the top is too loose, you wouldn’t see the belt.

Denims and trousers

The belt will definitely add sophistication and elegance to trousers. Wear one if it has the loops. If not, don’t even try, you probably won’t manage to hold your trousers. Most trousers only welcome thin belts.

Here we are! I hope our advice is useful. And you? How do you like to wear your belt? Leave us a comment!
